Placebo is a deliberation
Much like Muse,Greenday and Bon Jovi just to name a few, Battle for the Sun has failed to ignite the passion and euphoria that one would associate with previous works of art.
So it’s with half-hearted anticipation that i contemplate heading to Fort Canning on the 18th of March to watch this band live. Come on, this band had many a splendour with David Bowie and its associations with Romeo & Juliet have been embedded into the little corner of our minds. (please please don’t get Saosin to open for them and no, any local band should never be given the opportunity, not for a band like this.)
That they do not provide us with the songset for their tour leaves you wondering if they will indeed skew towards the Placebo of the old medication or will they turn disgustingly country rogue like Bon Jovi.

Seriously go tube: Livin on a Prayer, and then tube We weren’t born to follow.
It’s almost as ghastly as CNA continuously saying at every hourly bulletin ” Semen samples from former prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was found in the anus of his former aide “
Time to consider and look back then.
I much prefer the acoustic, much cause it’s easier to play on my guitar.
Got to love Bowie’s deep bass vocal prowess here.
Originally done by T.rex, the dudes did a much more upbeat version. Oh and Bowie again
The. T.Rex original
See you at the bitter end

The Civil Service Joke
I just have to say that the AWARE saga is really dumb, both sides just notioning about the same thing over and over again. Why there was a big hoo-ha over it i still can’t comprehend. And Singaporeans just love to become activists for the causes that they ” believe” in only when the need arises, and only when it is legal.
For the past couple of weeks, we have been left confused by the media no doubt with their daily contradicting views on the economy and the H1N1 imminent pandemic. Which makes me wonder just how the various governments and organisations really perceive and handle all these dilemmas.
Which brings me to my point of the title: The Civil Service Joke.
I think it’s hilarious, that the people in the audience actually laugh at the so called punch lines and jokes as told by our favourite ministers, high authority figures and anyone who holds the power towards their promotion and success.
I’m not lamenting the civil sector alone, many offices with an inplaced hierachy system also have employees attesting to this sense of ” forced laughter “. I know everyone has their own perception of what is humour, what is comedy.
Case in point.
But seriously, such scenarios are usually never ever funny and if you would just notice the audiences simultaneously laughing in the monotonous ” hahahaha” way, rounding an applause and ending in all of 3 seconds for each joke. They just seem like the humour switch is nothing but an on-off button.
Or maybe it’s like those forced applause in a tv studio.
I experienced my first dose of this just the other day as i was briefed about the implementations of the H1N1 virus. Seeing them in their nice suits and ties while i wad decked in my kurt cobain tee made me feel somehow left out, but thankful that i do not succumb myself to such humility of humour.
They joked about a guy returning from HK, about how microphones need to be sanitised and how thermometers can become fashion statement.
Humour is something that tickles you to the point where you can laugh willingly on your own, something where you can laugh in your own laughing voice, get stitches and be gasping for air.
But i have to agree on one point. Bush really takes the cake. Now this is what i call political humour.
Fake laughs begin with an H, real ones start with an A
